Making Capsules

Happy Oily Thursday Y’all!

Almost to the end of the week for yet another weekend. This weekend is Halloween weekend at least here in the States. What’s everyone’s plans? Me? Well since it’s my dad’s birthday coming up next week, we are taking him out to dinner over the weekend since also, my mom and I are heading to Gulfport for the week. Though he doesn’t know he is going to dinner I’m trying to keep it a surprise for him, just hope it stays that way. So far, so good. Anyways, today I want to share with you a little hint on making capsules as well a short video on the how-to.

Let’s get started…

Making Capsules

Things Needed:

  • Vegetable Capsules
  • Young Living Essential Oil

First and foremost, the only essential oils that should be added to a capsule for ingestion include but not limited to Basil, Bergamont, Black Pepper, Cardamom, Carrot Seed, Celery Seed, Cinnamon Bark, and Citrus Fresh Essential Oils. For a full list click here.

Essential Oil Bottles:

Have you every noticed that some of the oils take longer than other to come out? Or you may have to turn the bottle another way for the oil to finally come out. Grant it some oils are thicker than others so it will take longer but others such as the Lavender Essential Oil and Lemon Essential may come out with the bottle turned one way quicker but with it turned another way a bit slower.

If you look at the bottle straight from the top you will notice the big hole in the middle and probably though when you first started using essential oils that’s where the oil comes out. Unfortunately this is not the case. The big hole in the middle is an air hole; it’s the small pin size hole where the oil comes out.

Creating Capsules:

Making Capsules -- Visit CaftyJBIrd.com for more info...When creating a capsule you will obviously use the bigger longer side of the capsule to fill it up. Depending on the size capsule depends on how many drops it will hold. The capsules I used holds approximately 15 drops. I purchased mine from Amazon.com when I first convinced myself to use capsules back in September 2014. Due to not using them as often as I do now, I still have a handful left out of the 1000 count in the bag. The size I use is the “O” size.

Some capsules can be pre-made without problems; while other capsules should be made right when they are about to be taken. I have just recently learned this the hard way.

Here’s an example:

If I make some of my “Seasonal Issue” capsules which contains Lavender Essential Oil, Lemon Essential Oil, and Peppermint Essential Oil with five drops each, I can make several at one time that would last me the week. However, if I make try to make several capsules in the morning with Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil and EndoFlex Essential Oil the capsule will start to break down by the time I go to bed that night due to the Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil being one of the many “hot oils.”

Hot Oils:

Some of the other “hot oils” includes but not limited Thieves Essential Oil, Clove Essential Oil, Oregano Essential Oil, and Thyme Essential Oil. Any capsule made with these oils should be made right before taken and not stored. An exception to this is if you place them in the freezer. I have not done this myself, however; I have heard and read you can store capsules in the freezer to be taken later. Again I have not personally tried this, mainly because they would probably get thrown away by one of my parents or my sister.

Click here and here for a couple of really short videos on how to fill a capsule. Please excuse the first one as apparently, my Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil was down to the last couple drops. Luckily, I have some being delivered later today.
