Hip Scope Surgery

Ohhhh Random Tuesday!

So, a week from Thursday I am having another hip scope surgery. A few weeks ago I had another MRI Arthrogram which apparently showed me having another torn ligament around my hip-joint. When I had this surgery back in March 2015, it turned out to be not only a torn ligament but also a bone spur.

Before I had that surgery I had been in pain since 2011. I went to multiple doctors and everyone just said it was a pelvic dysfunction or something another; but I was determined it was something else. Finally, when I was going to my personal fitness trainer and telling her about it, she mentioned how she was going to the orthopedic doctor across the street; so I decided I would make an appointment and see what he had to say. After he did a few tests and order an MRI Arthrogram, it was determined I did indeed have something else causing the pain not just something that I needed to go to Physical Therapy for and I would be all good to go.

What the Pain Feels Like:

Me after my surgery last year… We scrapbook so what did you except? No pics? Anesthesia was still working its way of wearing off…

My pain depending on the day was either a sharp or dull pain. Some days it was hurt more if I walked too much or sat too much. The pain could have been anywhere from my lower back to the side and front of my leg. Sometimes it even shot down my leg. When I drove home or back to my beach apartment, which is a 6 hour drive; the pain was sometimes I different pain where it just felt like all the way down my leg was heavy. Eventually I had to get myself a cheap seat cushion. By that Christmas, I had gotten a better one and it makes driving so much easier.

NFLShop.com - NFL Jerseys and GearI bring this up because we just drove home from Dallas today in my mom’s SUV and everything was starting to feel very heavy again; so I feel my hip is getting to that point already yet again. Though I am sad I am having to go through this for a second time, be on crutches once again, and won’t be able to drive for several weeks depending on the severity of the tear; I look forward to the day I am healed and able to move back to Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. Hopefully in time for the Institute of Marine Mammals Studies new facility to open and start hiring.

This Time Around:

Last year I purchased these two sets of crutch covers/padding off Etsy. This year, don’t be surprised to see a “Make It Monday” project eventually….

This time around, I started having super bad pain back in May I think it was; so I visited my doctor once again. He started me on some steroid medicine. When those didn’t work I continued using my Young Living essential oils giving myself relief enough to work a little. Eventually I started being in more and more pain not being able to do my job at the zoo. I went back to my doctor and he sent me to Physical Therapy for a few weeks. Still not much relief there so he gave me a steroid shot.

I will never get another steroid shot, it felt like ants running up and down my leg that night. When I went to get up I wasn’t really sure I would be able to get up because of the feeling. Since that didn’t work, that’s when he ordered the MRI Arthrogram. Originally it was thought maybe the first torn ligament stitches came undone and it would be an easy 20 minutes surgery and be good to go within about a week. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be as easy as thought.

What is Hip Scope Surgery:

‘Nurse’ Grace on alert! Never left my side!

According to American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, website hip scope surgery also known as an arthroscopy is “a surgical procedure that allows doctors to view the hip joint without making a large incision (cut) through the skin and other soft tissues. Arthroscopy is used to diagnose and treat a wide range of hip problems.

During hip arthroscopy, your surgeon inserts a small camera, called an arthroscope, into your hip joint. The camera displays pictures on a video monitor, and your surgeon uses these images to guide miniature surgical instruments.

Because the arthroscope and surgical instruments are thin, your surgeon can use very small incisions, rather than the larger incision needed for open surgery. This results in less pain for patients, less joint stiffness, and often shortens the time it takes to recover and return to favorite activities.”

Upcoming Projects to Look Out For:

Yes, I plan on making my covers this time around for my crutches. Since I’ve been teaching myself with a little help from my mom how to sew, I figured why not. I also have a couple of projects I plan to hopefully get done before my surgery but will be posted afterwards since my surgery is next week.

Please be patient if for some reason I don’t have a post for a day or so. I’m still hoping to get several finished before next week and some for a few days afters but when Thanksgiving and everything else, not sure how I’m going to be feeling. But no fear cause if I do miss a day or so, it should be only a day or two. Thanks for your understanding!
