The THEN & NOW of Scrapbooking

Happy “Scrap It Friday

my fellow Scrappers!

It’s not only Friday, it’s also the start of 4th of July Weekend!  I hope everyone has a great but safe one!!

For this post I wanted to show and compare the way scrapbook pages were made before scrapbooking became so popular.  As I have said in previous posts, I have been scrapbooking since I was in 5th grade.  Though I can’t seem to find my very first scrapbook, I have found my scrapbook from 8th grade.

The THEN & NOW of Scrapbooking

Houston Space Center:

The first double page is of a field trip we took in 8th grade down to the Houston Space Center.  As you can see there are flat stickers, letter stickers, and the only journaling I did back then was putting the names of my friends under their picture!  As you can see, I also cut around the pictures to cut them out and used a corner rounder with a star punch out.

Of course, these days I sometimes cut the specific person or thing of and still use a corner rounder ever so often (don’t think we have the one with the star punch out anymore).  When I found this page I thought it was kinda appropriate for this post for this 4th of July weekend seeing as it does have the USA and the colors Red, White, and Blue with Stars everywhere. 😛

All Our Crazy Pets:

The second double page is of all the animals we use to have growing up.  As you can see in the pictures we had 2 cats – the black one was named BK (black kitty), we had her since I was 5 or 6 and I had declared her mine so I was the one who named her 🙂 ; the orange one was name Junior and was one of BK’s babies.  The 2 yellow birdies are the love birds my sister and I got when we went to bird fair (I don’t remember their names, and not sure why I didn’t write them).

Last but not least, the grey bird is Alex who is an African Grey Bird to be exact.  He is also my mom’s baby, and yes he made the mess with the kleenex’s.  If you have read my other posts you will see we actually have Alex.  Alex turned 21 this year in April and will most likely outlive both my parents as African Grey’s can live till they’re 75-80 years old.

In these two pages you can see again I used a corner rounder, scissors to cut around the pictures, and had flat stickers ::BORING::  In the 2nd page of the double page here, BK loved being outside in the yard watching and trying to catch the birds and butterflies.  Once again, there are flat stickers and then simple half circle lines going around the page.  I think I must have used some type of small ruler to make the lines.

Friendship Oak Tree @ USM-GC:

Now, for this double page above here, I just recently made it within the last year.  The pictures are from my first trip down to Long Beach, MS to look for an apartment on the beach for when I started at the University of Southern Mississippi – Gulf Coast in Long Beach, MS.  I backed each picture with a cardstock color close to the schools colors using a corner rounder on a few of the corners.

I used the Cricut Explore™ to cut the tree, “Friendship Oak Tree,” the date in the left hand corner out.  I also used the Cricut Explore™ for writing my journaling I have in the right hand corner.  If I do say so myself, 19 years after creating the first two layouts, things have changed!

Happiness on the Beach!

For this last double page, I just wanted to show another way pages are made these days.  Mosaic Moments™ have been around for over 10 years.  My mom and her best friend who scrapbooks with us first found them at the Great American Scrapbook Convention in Arlington, Texas and they each purchased their starter kit to make their pages mosaic.  It wasn’t until 2009 or 2010 when I decided to purchase their starter kit.  In addition to purchasing their starter kit, I also purchased a few of their page kits, and ever since I have just loved their page kits.

The kit above is their kit, I believed named “Happiness.”  I added the “on the beach” part using the Cricut Explore™.  I thought it was perfect for the first pictures I took of me on the beach across from the apartment I found as stated above, when I talked about the previous double pages.

Mosaic Moments™ are so easy to put together but they look like they could have taken hours.  It’s CRAZY!  When we go to scrapbook events that’s only for a day, I try to take just the page kits and just spend the day putting them together.  Don’t get me wrong, I take a few more things on those days too; but mainly because I gotta have something to do once those pages are finished since they are so easy to put together.  😛

So there you go, 2 double pages finished when I was in 8th grade compared to 2 double pages finished within the last year.  I truly hope you enjoyed this post.
